Live Well, Be Well; Suicide

Liat Kaye MSEd, MSc, MBPsS

“If you suspect that someone you love might be suicidal. The most important thing you can do is to ask the question. Just ask them. Are they suicidal?”

With suicide rates increasing across the UK, we must start having more open conversations about our mental health. According to suicide support charity, Samaritans, there were 6,944 suicides in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland in 2018. Overall, men accounted for three-quarters of UK deaths by suicide in 2018.

Psychotherapist Liat Kaye MSEd, MSc, MBPsS shares how we can support ourselves and one another in this short video. Providing advice on what we can do if someone we know is at risk of suicide, Liat reminds us that these tough conversations are difficult to have. But they can save someone’s life.

If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or think someone that you know is, we encourage you to please start the conversation. Ask for help. Reach out. Please know that having this conversation is not a burden. There are organisations such as the Samaritans who are there to provide support to you and your loved ones.

Call 116 123 for free to speak to someone from the Samaritans helpline today.
