Imposter Syndrome with Menswear Designer Bethany Williams

“I definitely think there should be much more of an open conversation about how we are feeling and having more support systems.”

Menswear designer Bethany Williams connects social and environmental issues through her sustainable collections. Working with new charities each season, she addresses problems from all angles of the industry, donating a sizable amount of the profits to the charities involved.

“For me it’s not just about making clothes, it’s about telling stories and trying to have the least impact on the planet. And having the production of those clothes, how they are made, supporting the people, rather than taking advantage.”

Despite the incredible work Bethany is doing within the fashion industry and beyond, like many high achieving individuals, she experiences imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is defined as “the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved, or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills”. A syndrome that comes hand in hand with feelings of anxiety and fear that one will be exposed as a fraud.
