Model & Mentor

Hi, I’m Gia. Born and raised in London. Modelling wasn’t on my radar but I got scouted at 16 years old and didn’t look back. 20 years later I’m still modelling and now a mother.

How did you hear about Mentoring Young Creatives?

My agency, Models 1 reached out and asked if I was interested in this organisation. It instantly struck a chord. The industry is desperate for this.

Why do you want to be a Mentor on the Mentoring Young Creatives programme?

I want to use my 20 years experience and give back to an industry I know so much about. I want to be able to help and change young lives in any way I can.

What past experiences do you have which you believe will help you to mentor a young person in the creative industries?

I have lived and travelled abroad since I was sixteen so I know what its like to feel anxious or homesick. Dealing with big personalities in the work environment. Being told I’m too fat, or too thin. I’ve been through and experienced a lot.

What do you hope to achieve from the Mentoring Young Creatives programme?

I hope to bring some comfort and lightness to this programme. To empower these young individuals and try give them confidence to get through anything they are up against.

What are you most excited about in starting the Mentoring Young Creatives programme?

I’m excited to meet the creatives and work on their journey. To see how they grow and evolve over time.

How do you think your career and health would have been affected had you had the opportunity to be mentored early in your career?

It would have been amazing to have the support. Fortunately, I have great parents and attracted good friends but it would have been nice to speak to people within the same industry. People that can identify to what I was going through.

What is the best piece of advice that you have been given by a mentor/colleague/friend?

Be you’re own best friend. Love yourself.
